Norbert’s Birthday
The captain’s birthday was spent in harbour. The quarters were cleaned and the jib was taken to the sailmaker in the harbour, who kindly agreed to repair it by 16:00, as he would be closed the following day.
Hildegard arrived with long awaited charts, a stock of drinks, newspapers, a bottle of gas and a Schwarzwalderkirschtorte as a birthday cake for Norbert. The cake was enjoyed with coffee on board. The repaired sail was collected at 15:30 and Hildegard left, to return to Bremen.
The skipper treated the crew to an excellent dinner in the marina restaurant, in a jovial atmosphere, which was further stimulated by a last minute win for Holland in the World Cup game on television.
There would be time to visit Lelystad town on the return leg of the voyage.
