4. Cuxhaven to Helgoland

Hearing that the weather was to worsen tomorrow, it was decided to sail for Helgoland today.

Leaving Cuxhaven at 10:30 the Elbe was quickly crossed, passing between outgoing ships.

Good speed was made at first on the ebb tide but, after the tide turned, progress was slow against the headwind. The sea was heavy but the sun shone all day.

Helgoland was reached at 19:00.
