40. Gouda to Lisse
11 August
The boat was turned around and the line was cast off at 09:50. On reaching the main river, Weeki Wachee held station and waited for a railway bridge to open at 10:27. She then proceeded in a tight convoy, passing under numerous bridges through Boskoop and Alphen aan den Reijn, until all the other boats deviated towards Amsterdam.
The route continued through Leiderdorp, on various attractive waters, until a railway bridge which did not open until 18:38 was encountered. So the boat was moored and the crew had a meal. The bridge opened at 18:25 and it was possible to move off, but then it was necessary to loop around while opposing traffic came through. When the way was clear, Weeki Wachee passed quickly through, but soon afterwards had to turn again to try to help a boat stuck on the lee bank. After another 4km Lisse yacht club was reached and the boat was moored on the canal bank for the night.
Because Derek forgot to start the tracker in the morning, the track shows only the approach to Lisse.
